A History of Disease (Original 40" X 28")

Framed 40” X 28” (acrylic paint on a repurposed thrift shop painting)

I transformed this old farm painting that I found at a thrift store into a representation of our history with disease throughout the history of mankind. I did my best to capture as many different diseases as possible without overwhelming the overall composition of this painting. I touched on the plagues, the spanish-flu, polio, swine-flu, aids, tuberculosis, and even our current battles with COVID-19. I hope this painting acts as a reminder of how far we’ve come, and how much strength it took for us all to overcome these dark times. The development of medicine, and our understanding of disease is always growing. Maybe one day we will live in a world free of illness.
